When I was much younger and lived in Minnesota we joked that there were only two seasons – winter and road repair. Neither were so good for travel. 🙂
Many moons later, I’ve realized that my story about roads is flawed. Maybe you have the same story? Do you catch yourself asking “when is all the road construction going to be done?” That’s the flawed story – that there is ever a time when all roads are in good shape and none are being worked on. The real story is that resurfacing, repair, and new construction are always happening. The norm for driving is to encounter some kind of issue, shift, or detour.
The same type of flawed story exists about traveling through life. You keep waiting for the time when everything is smooth and back to “normal”. Instead “normal” life contains shifts and detours, just like roads.
I’m sorry to say so
but, sadly, it’s true
can Happen to you.
~Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
It is important to know that disruptions, small and big, are part of the real story! If you cling to the old story that life should always be smooth, then your real life is “wrong”. You spin your wheels trying to get to “smooth” traveling rather than be in the journey as it is, disruptions and all.
If you were sitting in a circle with a group of women talking about handling the small potholes and minor bumps in life, these ideas might surface:
- Deep breathing
- Time in nature
- Supportive friends
- Music, dance, art, or other creative activity
- Time to be alone
- Physical exercise
Big disruptions are more difficult. There are sink holes, washed out bridges, and roads closed for construction as you travel through life. It takes effort to find new routes and keep going. Connecting to your inner wisdom gives you direction. New ideas and tools open up options.
Would you enjoy time to get direction from your inner wisdom in the company of other women? Learn or deepen your use of two great tools for navigating life’s disruptions at these programs.
